Reruns become our history

Well. It's snowing. Again. Grrr, says I. Grr.

Anyway. I'm so insanely excited about Fall 2011! I'm going through some of the collections on Style.com, and I'm veeeery impressed. Hopefully I'll have a review or two posted by the end of the week.

I was a little angry, cuz I had to wake up early this morning to take entry testing for honors classes next year... Ewie. On the bright side, however, I'm going to Florida next week and shopppppping today. Oh, yeah. It's sort of depressing, I haven't been shopping in weeks!

Also. And interesting tidbit. We have to do this dance for graduation, and this is the video we are being taught with.

Afraid? You should be.

Just a little preview for the upcoming posts; I plan to be doing reviews on Diane von Furstenberg, Y-3, Malandrino, Alexander Wu, Tommy Hilfiger, Bogetta Veneta, and a few more, including Alexander McQueen when the show gets on Style.com.

No name face

As you may or may not have noticed, this page has gone under a name/URL change. I figured it was time for a change of name, change of pace. Plus, I really enjoyed the picture that is now the title of this page.

Shopping today! I'm one of those people who gets so excited about their recent purchase, that they just swap what they are already wearing to what they just bought. Sometimes it just looks like a few different outfits attacked you, but today it actually worked.

Purchases of the day: Calvin Klein black fedora, and black jacket with ribbing details.

I was wearing a pair of black Urban Vibe super skinny jeans, black Betsey Johnson tights, grey Franco Sarto t-straps, my favorite floral Free People baby doll top, my usual outerclothes (grey abercombie down jacket, black and white knit Dolce and Gabbana scarf, plus my Coach purse), and my jewelry (silver and diamond ring from Kessler's Diamons, silver charm bracelet, silver Love 21 layered chain necklace). Just threw on the hat, and swapped out my bulky winter coat with the warm (but less bulky) jacket, and I was ready to go. It actually didn't look too horrible. Except, after three hours of walking around the outlet mall, I was hobbling in that my-shoes-are-killing me antifashion.

I also got my February 2011 issue of Vogue, and was happy to see some previews of Fall 2011 collections in the 'Gangs of New York' article. I have to see, I'm eager see what Ralph Lauren, Rodarte, and Proenza Schouler will be sending down the run way after seeing the 14 page spread featuring seven different designers, including Marc Jacobs and DKNY. Ralph Lauren's was definitely my favorite, with the lovely Victorian ruffles, lace, and crocheted dresses. Very romantic. I wanted to pick my good ol' copy of Pride and Prejudice.

Brava to Mario Testino, the photographer of these pictures, and stylist Grace Coddington! And, course, the designers. Can't wait to see what other great pieces are in their collections.

Tell me your secrets

My entire life I’ve been afraid of loss
Not actually losing something
But that feeling in your chest you get when something is wrong
When something is
Missing
Do you know it?
I don’t know when I first had that feeling
But as long as I can remember I’ve feared it
Through the years I’ve found the best way to avoid the feeling
Is to keep moving
To leave it behind before
It
Can
Hurt
You
So
I became flyaway girl
I flew fast enough that the feeling couldn’t catch me
But then I met you
You were something I’d never encountered
Ever before in my flights
And I found that we had some things in common
Every waking hour you were on my mind
Why?
You
Fascinated
Me
So
I shed my wings
I didn’t want to run away
From you
But eventually, I had to grow those wings back
Not to run from you, but the
Thoughts
Feelings
Rumors
And
Lies
That followed your name like a shadow
At some point I stopped shedding my wings

And you became almost as dangerous as your name
I never meant to hurt you, see
But I’m flyaway girl
That’s what I do.

Don't Forget the Lyrics

Jeez, I've been bad with this lately.

Recently, I've been saving up for some cute new stuff, but I can't decide what to get! Well, saving up for me really means not buying anything for a few weeks... But, hey, $150 can go a long way!

But figuring out what I'm going to buy is the least of my problems. Just this past week, I was assigned a project in school titled 'National History Day.' Intimidating title, huh? But it's a huuuge deal at my school. I was paired for with my friend Jess, and we have chosen the topic of mistreatment of patients in asylums. Fitting, isn't it? But it's a huuuuuge project. Just the research is supposed to take three weeks. Mehhhh. So, in honor of that, all of the 'inspiration photos' for today will be dark and creepy. Yay!

Yokohama prostitues, dead roses, Claddagh costume, and lonely scene.

Later.

Hold it against me

Went shopping the other day... And by 'shopping' I mean walking into Marshalls for about half an hour, and then walking out. We managed to buy $350 worth of random stuff. I was looking at a pair of lucky jeans, but... I just couldn't bring myself to buy them. I'd need to wear heels with them, other wise they'd by insanely long. And I'd need a belt. And I'm not really a huge wear-belts-to-actually-hold-your-pants-up sort of person. Besides. Belts just end up making me look like I have a muffin top if I cinch them tight enough to actually do something.

Anyhow, I got this really awesome Franco Sartos at Macy's (we went there at some point over the weekend). They're grey t-straps. First pair of Franco Sartos! I was surprised to find that they are insanely comfortable, although they have a two inch heel on them. Will I be wearing them to school soon? Definitely. They'd look pretty awesome with some boot cut or flare jeans, but I do not own any of those, because I just really don't like to try jeans on. It's depressing. -.-

And... Then I've got a retreat for my church this weekend. Snow. Ice skating. Broom ball. Sledding. Horse back riding. More snow. It should be interesting. Down side; cold, snow clothes make me look like a marshmallow, and one bathroom per 15 people. *shivers*

Mmkay. I just wanted to update. So. Yeah. No pictures, but hey, I posted something, right? Maybe something a little more interesting next time...

Ann Demeulemeester

Alrightayy. Today; Ann Demeulemeester, as promised. I enjoyed watching this show. I liked the abstract graphic prints, and the interesting collar structures, whether they are made of fencing vests or just have fun designs.

All of these pieces have something in common; graphic print. Even though these looks were spaced throughout the duration of the show, they all share the same print, whether it was a blouse, or just the accents. That first look (it's actually one of the first looks in the show) has one of my favorite pieces in it.

I really enjoy the structure of this jacket. The base is a black, fitted jacket, but what really makes it interesting is the graphic printed collar and belt, as well as the fencing-jacket material details.

One of the really cool things about this runway show, it is all black and white, which makes it so much more intense against the backdrop. It almost seems sci-fi to me, with the intense eyebrows, minimalistic makeup, and greased back hair on the models. Actually, it was dark and creepy enough, when I first saw it, fo me to think that some of the fencing jackets were straight jackets. There was some nice porportions in this show. I really liked the fact that a lot of the floor length dresses were made so only one leg is actually covered by fabric, so that when the models walk, the dress billows out like a wing. Very cool.

By any other word would sound as sweet

Merry Christmas! (at least, to all that celebrate it)

The days surrounding Christmas are always so busy! For some reason my parents wanted to shopping on the day before Christmas Eve, although all of us were done with our gift hunting. Go figure. Don't get me wrong, I love the mall, but waiting in insanely long lines to buy a J. Crew headband an a couple of books is not my cup of tea. After ten minutes in an unmoving line, the headband was left behind. Ah, well. I fulfilled my mallers hunger to buy something by stopping at good ole Barnes & Noble to pick up copies of Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Why, say you? William Shakespeare was my favorite unit in English. It only lasted a month, a majority of which was spent writing our own sonnets. I walked into that store... and they were just calling to me. Then I got $75 worth of Barnes & Noble gift cards. Oh, irony.

Then... Christmas Eve. Ended up totally overdressing for service (why do I have to go to a church that is known for casual dressers???) and almost fell into a snow bank. Last time I'm wearing four inch heels in the winter.

Awesome thing about my parents; they allow my younger sister and I to open all of their presents (and the ones to each other) on Christmas Eve, and then we open presents from aunts/uncles and grandparents the next day.

After our two present opening sessions, I was a Dolce and Gabbana knit scarf, two Coach bags, a Vogue subscription, many books, two coats (free people and abercombie), and two perfumes (Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Euphoria by Calvin Klein) richer.

The bottles are both beautiful, but I think that Daisy's whimsicality overpowers Euphoria's taco-ish appearance. (sorry, Euphoria) Although, I have to say that Euphoria (at least to me) smells much better. It even knocks Viva la Juicy out of first place in the category of 'favorite perfume.' I'm usually very picky about perfumes; I usually find that they aren't sweet enough for me. And, really, what 13 wears a musky smelling perfume? Not me, at least. And I can't really use a majority of my mother's perfumes because they all smell like something a 50 year lady would wear. Besides... all the ones worth I've deemed worth wearing, I've stolen already. :K (these include Vera Wang, Pleasures by Estee Lauder, Sensi by Georgio Armani, Tresor by Lancome, a few without labels, and a handful of sample bottles)

Sorry that I'm running a little late on my review. (I'll be doing Ann Demeulemeester) I have a little 'reunion' with my Red Oak buddies. Red Oak is a writing program out here, and over the summer I took a course at Ten Chimneys. I became really good friends with the kids in my writing circle, but we haven't seen each other since late July! We are getting back together on... Thursday? Yeah. Thursday. And I haven't been writing very much. So... Yeah. I need to work on that. :*
